Klatovy Attractions

Klatovy dates to the 13th Century and is an interesting spot for its architecture. This fortified town was founded by King Premysl Otakar II at the crossroads of a major trading route. One of the town's most obvious features is the 81m / 265ft Black Tower (Cerna vez) which was built in the mid 16th Century. At the time the tower was built Klatovy was one of the wealthiest Czech towns in the country. The astronomical clock, which adorns the tower, was added in the 18th Century. The town hall with Bohemian style sgraffiti was built in the 16th Century and the white towers of the Jesuit Church, also a major landmark feature in Klatovy, were built in the 17th Century.

The two not to be missed attractions in the town are the Jesuit catacombs and the Baroque Pharmacy, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
