Work on the Jaromerice nad Rokytnou Chateau was started in 1711 and it is no surprise that it took 25 years to finish. The chateau is done up in the Baroque style and includes the parish church of St Marketa.
Count Questenberg had the chateau designed to be a cultural center for music and theatre in Jaromerice nad Rokytnou. Many great operas have been performed in the building, including the premier of the very first Czech Opera, O puvodu Jaromeric by Frantisek Vaclav Mica in 1730. The tradition of music continues to this day with a music festival taking place each summer.
