Description
One km/.75mi below Pláka is the village of Trypití (the name means "riddled with holes"), from which a concrete road leads to the Early Christian catacombs (second century), with the tomb of a saint in the principal chamber and some 2,000 burial recesses. The catacombs are unique in Greece.

The most important monument on Melos is the island's famous catacombs, now open to the public. They are among the most important of early Christian monuments.
