Stari Grad Attractions Old Town
The town of Stari Grad does not have beautiful beaches or a Cathedral but does have some unique sights. The biggest attraction in Stari Grad is Kastle Tvrdalj, also known as Hektorovic House. This fortified home was the residence of Croatian poet, Petar Hektorovic, and was built in 1520. The building has a beautiful seawater fishpond, surrounded by stone arches.
On the main square in Stari Grad are the 17th Century Church of St Stephen (Sv Stjepan), and the Baroque Bianchini Palace (Biankini Palaca). Also of note in the town is the 15th Century Dominican Monastery (Dominikanski Samostan) and some ruins of Roman villas. Stari Grad has a long history and was originally known as Pharos when it was founded around 400 BC by the Syracusans.
