High above the Bay of Plomin on the cliff's edge sits the walled village of Plomin. This fortified town, once known as Flanona, dates to the before the 6th Century, when it was destroyed by the Avars. The narrow streets wind through Plomin past the tightly packed houses. Much of what is visible today was designed in the 13th Century when it was under Venetian rule. Two of Plomin's main attractions are the church of St George the Elder (Sv Jurai Stari) and the church of St George the Younger (Sv Jurai). St George the Elder contains a Glagolitic scripture dating to the 11th or 12th Centuries. St George the Younger contains a variety of religious artwork.
