Pican Attractions

The village of Pican, known as Petena during Roman times, is about 12km / 7mi southeast of Pazin. Pican has a long history and was a bishop's see as far back as the 5th Century. Today the village maintains a variety of medieval buildings and the town gate dates to the 14th and 15th Centuries. The St Nicephorus Cathedral was originally built in the 14th Century but was rebuilt in the early 1700s. The main altar contains a painting by Valentin Metzinger entitled "Annunciation". Also of note in Pican is the Romanesque church of St Michael (Sv Mihovil) with 15th Century frescoes.
