At the southern end of Cres Island is the town of Osor, which looks across a channel to the island of Losinj. A swing bridge joins the two islands from this point. The town is densely packed on a peninsula and has a long history, which is reflected in the architecture and ancient monuments. The main square is built on a Roman forum. Osor was once the main town on the island of Cres although that distinction now goes to the town of Cres. Some of the main attractions in Osor are the Church of the Assumption, the Archeological Museum, and an abandoned Franciscan Monastery from the 15th Century. There is also a beach at Bijar Bay just a short walk north of Osor.
