At the western tip of the Peljesac Peninsula, furthest from the mainland and 67km / 40mi from Ston, is the town of Orebic. It has become a popular resort town due to its pleasant climate, nice beaches and pretty old town center. Orebic was once known for producing quality sea captains who, upon retirement, built beautiful villas here, which can still be seen today. One old stone villa houses the Maritime Museum (Pomorski Muzej) with old maps and displays on the local maritime history.
On a hillside just outside of Orebic is the massive 15th Century Franciscan Monastery (Franjevacki Samostan) with a fabulous view out over channel and surrounding islands. The monastery contains a good collection of religious artwork.
Only 2km / 1mi off the coast from Orebic is the island of Korcula. Regular ferry service connects these two points.
