Opatija has long been one of Croatia's premier resort towns. Elegant old hotels line the coast at Opatija, attracting visitors year round. The climate here is mild even during the winter months because it is protected from the bura wind by Mount Ucka. Mount Ucka is the highest point along the Istrian Peninsula, providing both shelter and
beautiful scenery. During the summer months many of the facilities and restaurants become open air establishments. Dining outside is the norm. The promenade along the oceanfront runs for 12km / 7mi. Opatija is a very busy place in the summer and most hotels and resorts are booked out well in advance.
