Karlovac Attractions
Southwest of Zagreb, on the road to Rijeka, is the town of Karlovac. It is a picturesque waterfront town, where the Kupa River, Korana River, Mreznica River and the Dobra River meet. The town was established in the 16th century to protect against the Turks. The layout of Karlovac is unique, forming a six-pointed star.
Karlovac is not a particularly popular tourist destination, although it has gained popularity with Zagrebians. The main attractions in town are the main square, Trg Bana Jelacica, where you will also find the Holy Trinity Church, the Korzo pedestrian streets, and just outside of town, the Stari Grad Dubovac (Dubovac Castle). There is also a small art gallery, Galerija Vjekoslav Karas, with works by 19th and 20th Century Croatian painters.
Beach goers can head to the Foginovo Kupaliste (town beach), on the River Korana, where they will find cafés, bars, diving boards and other beach related facilities.
