St Eugene Mission Church
Cranbrook Hotels
St Eugene Mission Church, at St Mary's Reserve between Cranbrook and Kimberley, was built in the 1890s for the Kootenay Indians (the Ktunaxa people). It is a good example of a typical Victorian wooden church.
The mission was started by Reverend Father Fouquet, a Catholic priest from the order of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate. Several decades after the St Eugene Mission was built a school was erected which operated from 1912 to 1970 and is the largest historical building in the area.
