Osborne House Description
Osborne House, the former summer residence of Queen Victoria, is situated in East Cowes. This complex of buildings was designed by Prince Albert and built by Thomas Cubitt between 1845 and 1848 in the style of an Italian villa as an asymmetrical site. After Albert's early death Queen Victoria frequently came here and it was at Osborne where she died in 1901. Most of the rooms have remained undisturbed since then. The state apartments, private rooms and the museum in the Swiss Cottage, imported from Switzerland for Albert and Victoria's children, can now be admired as reminders of the Victorian age.

The film "Her Majesty Mrs. Brown", starring Judy Dench and Billy Connoly, was filmed here.
