Description
(Local Name: Schloss Branitz / Bezirksmuseum) Schloss Branitz in Cottbus is a Baroque palace (1772) which was remodeled by Gottfried Semper around 1850. It now houses the Cottbus Regional Museum, with a collection of drawings and paintings by the Cottbus painter Carl Blechen (1798-1840) and interesting displays on the history of the town.

In the old court stables (Marstall) can be found the natural history section of the museum (geology, flora and fauna, lignite mining).

The old smithy (also built by Semper) was opened in 1986, after extensive reconstruction, as a technical exhibit.
