København - Ny Carlsberg Glyptothek
From Tivoli in Copenhagen's center, H. C. Andersens Boulevard leads southeast to Dante Square (Dante Plads). Here can be found the Ny Carlsberg Glyptothek, in front of which stands the Dante Column, a gift from the city of Rome. The museum contains the collections of Carl and Ottilia Jacobsen, who presented them for public exhibition in 1888. The building was erected in two phases, the first part in 1892-7 with three wings and a richly decorated facade facing Dante Square, the second in 1901-6.

Things to See
Collection of Antiquities
The Collection of Antiquities in the rear building was assembled with the help of the German archaeologists W. Helbig and P. Arndt and is regarded as one of the finest of its kind north of the Alps. It contains many Roman portraits and busts, and the Egyptian and Etruscan collections are also very fine. Every period of Egyptian sculpture is represented, and the Greek sculpture includes outstanding original examples of 6th and 5th C. B.C. Archaic art and some of the best work from the time of Phidias, Polycletus, Praxiteles and Lysipp.
Modern Art
The central feature, known as the Winter Garden, is a pillared marble hall in the style of an ancient temple court. The front building contains the modern collection. There are rooms with works by Danish sculptors, particularly by two pupils of Thorvaldsen - H. V. Bissen (1798-1868) and J. A. Jerichau (1816-83) - as well as rooms devoted to French sculpture with an extensive collection of Rodin's work (1840-1917). The upper floors contain further sculpture, including bronzes by Edgar Degas, and a collection of pictures by French and Danish masters of the 19th and 20th C., including some by the French Impressionists Cézanne, Sisley, Pissarro, Monet and Renoir. In the Winter Garden can be seen the decorative fountain group "The Water Mother and her Children", by Kai Nielsen (1882-1924).
