The house was built in 2 stages, in 1754 and in 1767, by Rev. Joseph Bellamy, the leader of the Great Awakening, an emotional religious revival of the 1740s. The property was owned by several people and then purchased by Caroline Ferriday's parents, Henry and Eliza Ferriday, in 1912. Caroline worked on the outside to create formal gardens, breathtaking rose & lilac collections and sweeping lawns.
