Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area

Fort Spokane, in the Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area, is an important historical site. The fort was built in 1880 and in 1898 it was turned into a boarding school and tuberculosis hospital for the Native people in the area.

The historic St Paul's Mission in Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area was run by missionaries from the time of the fur trade. They worked to establish relationships with the local natives. St Paul's Mission is one of the main attractions in the recreation area.
