37mi/60km west of Colorado Springs on U.S. 24 (Ute Pass) are the very interesting Florissant Fossil Beds (stumps of fossil trees, etc.).
The 6,000-acre area has hiking trails, an old 1878 homestead and an information center.

Rocky Mountain Dinosaur Resource Center
(Teller County)
The Rocky Mountain Dinosaur Resource Center features 12,000 sq feet dedicated to dinosaur displays, fossils from North America's Cretaceous Period including marine reptiles, pterosaurs, and dinosaurs. A working fossil lab allows visitors to watch scientists and technicians up close. The displays include graphics and life restoration sculptures to help you visualize these fascinating animals and the environments in which they lived. The children's play area and hands-on educational activities are also available at the Rocky Mountain Dinosaur Resource Center.
