Columbine East Ranger District

The Pine Ranger District is one of four ranger districts in the San Juan National Forest. It is administered from Bayfield.

Chimney Rock

Chimney Rock is a San Juan National Forest Archaeological Area with guided tours of Anasazi Indian ruins. Chimney Rock was home to the ancestors of the modern Pueblo Indians 1,000 years ago and is spiritually significant to these tribes.

Lemon Lake

Lemon Lake is a reservoir with boating, fishing, and three campgrounds. It is located north of Bayfield in the San Juan National Forest.

Vallecito Lake

Located in the Pine Valley near Bayfield, Vallecito Lake is a reservoir with two marinas, and several campgrounds. Formed by a dam on the Pine River, Vallecito Lake is also a gateway to the Weminuche Wilderness Area.

Four Mile Falls

Four Mile Falls is north of Pagosa Springs Ranger District, visitors can hike to the falls by following a creek for three miles to the double waterfall.

Opal Lake

Opal Lake, at an elevation of 8,600 feet, is a relatively easy walk from the trailhead southeast of Pagosa Springs. Along the walk, which is just over one mile, hikers can see beaver dams and groves of large aspen trees.

Quartz Lake

The Quartz Lake hiking trail climbs 1,560 feet from the trailhead on Mill Creek Road to a beautiful mountain lake at an elevation of 11,600 feet.

Weminuche Wilderness
