Fort Garland Attractions
Fort Garland is an agricultural community located on the eastern edge of the San Luis Valley in Costilla County. Southwest of Fort Garland is Pike's Stockade, a stockade reconstructed from the notebooks of Zebulon Pike, who camped along the Conejos River with his men from 1806 to 1807.
The legendary frontiersman Kit Carson once commanded Fort Garland. The Fort Garland Museum is housed in the old fort on the south end of town, established in 1858 and featuring a re-creation of the commandant's quarters.
