An hour's drive north of Denver, in the oil-rich eastern foreland of the Front Range, is Fort Collins (pop. 68,000), a town founded in 1864 which is now the seat of Colorado State University. Features of interest are the lovingly restored old town center with its attractive shops and restaurants as well as the Western Museum.
Fort Collins lies
on the edge of the prairie, on the Cache la Poudre River at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. Known as the Choice City, it is the largest city in Northern Colorado.
