Creede is an old mining town in Mineral County, with a population of about 400 people. Creede once had a reputation as one of the wildest places in the state, home to such notorious figures as Bat Masterson, Calamity Jane, Frank James and Bob Ford, the man who killed Jesse James.
Creede Repertory Theatre began in 1966 with a small budget and very few actors. Today, the theatre has a rigorous schedule with summer and fall performances, including contemporary and classic theatre.
The Underground Mining Museum is a series of rooms and tunnels blasted into the cliff face of Willow Creek Canyon. Visitors get a first hand taste of a miner's subterranean experience through the tours and a series of demonstrations and exhibits. The exhibit hall provides a colorful display of minerals and artifacts.
