Central City Attractions
Central City was once a booming gold mining town in the mountains west of Denver. Its annual Opera Festival has been a popular attraction since it began in 1932 with Lillian Gish in "Camille".
The Gilpin History Museum in Central City is housed in a restored schoolhouse built in 1870 and used until the 1960's. It has a collection of antique dolls, a recreation of Main Street and artifacts from the mining history of the region.
