Canon City Tourist Attractions

Canon City is located at the head of the Arkansas River Valley offering beautiful scenery that has made it a popular location for Hollywood movies, including "True Grit".

Buckskin Joe Park and Railway

Buckskin Joe Park and Railway is a reconstructed frontier mining town. There are short scenic rail trips to the gorge on the Royal Gorge Scenic Railway, gold panning, an antique car museum and log buildings. Buckskin Joe is home to 30 authentic buildings right from the 1860's Colorado Frontier.

Museum of Colorado Prisons

The Colorado Territorial Museum in Cañon City is located in a historical cell house that was the original Women's Correctional Facility, constructed in 1935. Exhibits include 32 cells with life-size models, a gas chamber, and a collection of confiscated weapons.

Cañon City Municipal Museum

The Cañon City Municipal Museum has several outdoor buildings that include a log cabin from 1860 and the Stone House from 1881. Items on display are minerals and rocks, artifacts from settlements and guns.

Dinosaur Depot

Dinosaur Depot in Cañon City has replicas of dinosaurs based on fossils found in the area including the world's most complete Stegosaurus! The Garden Park Fossil Area has been a discovery zone for late Jurassic fossils.

Royal Gorge Bridge

Crossing the Arkansas River from a height of 1,053 feet, the Royal Gorge Bridge, built in 1929, is the highest suspension bridge in the US. The park has 21 rides, shows and attractions on 360 acres.
