Yueyang Attractions
Yueyang is situated in the north of Hunan province, on the northeast bank of Lake Dongtinghu.
The first urban settlement here was over 2000 years ago. In the 6th C, under the Sui, it was known as Yuezhou and was the capital of one of China's largest regions. Today Yueyang's main importance is as a trade center for timber and cotton.

Pagoda of Mrs Ci
Built in 713-741, this pagoda rises to a height of 39m/128ft in the southwest of the town, on the bank of Lake Dongtinghu. It was named after a Mrs Ci who sold everything she possessed in order to pay for it to be built.

Yueyang Lou Tower
Yueyang Lou Tower dates from the 11th C and stands 20 m high. It was known as a meeting place for China's great literary writers.
Lake Dongtinghu
Lake Dongtinghu, linked by several canals with the Changjiang river, obtains 40 per cent of its water from the latter and the rest from four other large rivers. In the dry season from October to April, however, water flows from the lake into the Changjiang, so that the lake's water level falls and its area is reduced by almost a third. A boat trip on the lake is not to be missed.
Lake Dongtinghu - Junshan Island
15km/9.5mi from the town, in Lake Dongtinghu, lies Junshan Island, known for its varied flora, especially the different species of bamboo. The island's tea is also famous.
