Hengyang Attractions
Hengyang lies on the Xiangjiang river, in the interior of Hunan province.
It is linked to Changsha, the provincial capital, by the Beijing-Canton railroad. It is also possible to fly to Hengyang from Canton; the flight lasts one and a half hours.
Hengyang can boast a long history, as witnessed by the works of poets from the Tang era (618-907) and by writers and politicians of later periods. Today it is the second largest economic and cultural center in Hunan province.

Mount Hengshan
One of the Five Holy Mountains of China, Mount Hengshan is home to several important temples. It is also incredibly scenic, with 72 peaks.
Mountain of the Return of the Wild Geese
A few hundred yards south of the town towers the Mountain of the Return of the Wild Geese. According to tradition, wild geese flying north were unable to fly over this mountain and had to return south. The monastery, built in 742, was destroyed during the Second World War apart from a temple which survived.
