Henley-on-Thames
Henley-on-Thames occupies an idyllic position on the river between wooded hills, and is famous for the Royal Regatta, which has taken place in the first week of July since its inauguration by Prince Albert in 1839, and which is one of the great social events of the London season. Another traditional ceremony is "swan-upping" in the third week of July. The town has an 18th century bridge, which spans the wide curve of the Thames, and a row of handsome Georgian houses.
