Description
(Local Name: Lagos de Colores) Visitors should take a guide with them as this extensive and broken ground can prove difficult to explore alone. One group of lagoons is called the Lagos de Colores (Coloured Lakes) because they appear in the most diverse tones from emerald green to midnight blue. This phenomenon is caused by the angle of the sun, the depth of the lakes and by the combined nature of the land and the water. The lakes and their surroundings consequently bear such fine-sounding names as La Encantada (Enchanted Lagoon), Ensueño (Dream), Esmeralda (Emerald), Bosque Azul (Blue Forest) and Agua Tinta (Coloured Water).
