Chemtou - Rock-cut Reliefs
On the southwest, west and north sides of the temple hill at Chemtou a long series of reliefs carved on the rock (more than 200 in number) were discovered. They range in height between 20 and 55cm/8 and 21in and in width between 30 and 35cm/12 and 14in, but can be seen only when the sun is in certain positions, and then only for a few minutes. Crudely carved, they depict mainly sacrifices in honor of Saturn (successor to the Punic god Baal-Ammon) and are of great cultic interest.
