Chemnitz - Old Town Hall

Germany Hotels
(Local Name: Altes Rathaus) The Chemnitz Old Town Hall (1498, originally Late Gothic), immediately adjoining the New Town Hall, was completely destroyed in 1945 and subsequently rebuilt. In the center of the market front is the tower, with a richly decorated Renaissance doorway (1559). In the west part of the building can be seen a reconstruction of the old Councilors' Room (Ratsherrenstube), with Late Gothic vaulting. On the rear front rises the Hoher Turm (High Tower), probably a 13th century defensive tower which was incorporated in the Town Hall in the 14th century and later much altered.
