Charleston - Magnolia Plantation
|
|
1 mi. beyond Drayton Hall on the same road is the Magnolia Plantation. The most impressive feature here is not so much the house as the gardens, lavishly laid out around 1680 - the oldest man-made gardens in North America. The bridges over the quiet ponds and arms of the river have a fairytale look. Also within the estate are the Swamp Gardens, which give some impression of the swamp country inhabited by alligators which the first settlers found here.
