Shirley Plantation Description
The beautifully restored Shirley Plantation is a wonderful place to visit. Located on the banks of the James River, the Shirley Plantation is 35 miles from Williamsburg and a visit here can be combined with a trip to Colonial Williamsburg. Founded in 1613, the Shirley Plantation is the United States' first plantation and a National Historic Landmark. The home contains many artifacts and an unusual "Flying Staircase". The grounds are immaculately kept and a nice place to wander around.
