Description
The enchanting park round the châteaux in Chantilly was laid out in 1663 by the royal gardener André Le Nôtre, who equipped it, on the model of Versailles, with a large canal, an antique temple and a romantic Island of Love. Other attractive features of the park are a little hunting lodge, the 17th century Maison de Sylvie, a tennis court (Jeu de Paume) of 1757 and the 17th C Hameau, a reconstruction of a little village which served as a setting for the pastoral plays then in vogue.
