Cerveteri Tombs Description
Cerveteri (a corruption of Caere Vetus) occupies the site of the Etruscan city of Caere, which was an important commercial and political center from the eighth to the fourth century B.C. The necropolis of Cerveteri, to the north of the present town, introduces the visitor to the life and the funerary cult of this people, who occupied large areas of central Italy before the rise of Rome and developed a high degree of artistic achievement in architecture, painting, sculpture and metalwork. Gold and bronze objects, vases and paintings produced by the Etruscans can be seen in the museums of Rome as well as in the British Museum and the Louvre.
