Mastic Reserve and Trail

The Mastic Reserve on Grand Cayman is designed to protects an area of old growth dry forest, which is typical to the Caribbean but disappearing through deforestation. The Mastic Trail is a 2 mile trail through the reserve that takes visitors past dry forest, silver thatch palms, and black mangrove wetland. The trail was originally built over 100 years ago; mahogany logs were used for a bridge over the wetlands, but eventually with the development of roads the trail was no longer used and became over grown. With much help and repair the trail was reopened in the mid 1990s. Today it is possible to take a self guided or guided tour along the Mastic Trail.
