About 6km/4mi south of Aldeia dos Palheiros a little road branches off (4km/2.5mi) to the remains of a settlement of the early historical period, the Castro de Cola (known in Roman times as Ossonoba). Roughly rectangular in shape, it is surrounded by a rampart 5m/16ft high.
The archaeological site of Castro de Cola also houses the Nossa Senhora da Cola, a popular chapel that is visited by many pilgrims each year.
