Möll Valley Mölltal

In addition to the numerous lakes, with facilities for bathing, the tourist attractions of Carinthia include the river valleys and the beautiful walking country in the eastern part of the region. From the Grossglockner massif the valley at first runs south and then turns east, to enter the Drau valley at Möllbrücke. At Döllach the Zirknitz valley joins the Möll valley, within a beautiful waterfall and a cave.

Must-see attractions nearby:
Above Rangersdorf, in the middle of the Möll valley, stands a Gothic church which forms a conspicuous landmark. From Obervellach there is a rewarding climb up Polinik, from which there are far-ranging views. At the foot of the Reisseck group lies the village of Kolbnitz (power station). Finally in Möllbrücke, a summer resort in the Lurnfeld, the church of St Leonard is worth a visit (Late Gothic winged altar; Baroque pulpit and side-altars).

The valley of the Möll, which rises on the Grossglockner and flows into the Drau at Möllbrücke, descends rapidly from the main Alpine chain towards the Klagenfurt basin. As a convenient traffic route it was already of strategic importance in Roman times, and this charmingly beautiful valley is now the approach to the Grossglockner Road and the Tauern railroad tunnel at Mallnitz.
