Millstätter See
The Millstätter See, 12km/7.5mi long, 1.5km/1mi wide and up to 141m/463ft deep, is beautifully set between the wooded Seerücken (866m/2,841ft) to the south and the Nockberge to the north. The main road runs along the northern side of the lake, with only narrow minor roads on the southern side. It is very popular for winter sports, with water temperatures of up to 25 deg C/77 deg F. The villages round the lake offer facilities for swimming, sailing, surfing, tennis, horseback riding and walking. In addition, hobby courses are available (oil and water-color painting, shell decoration, metal jewelry, modeling in clay).

Döbriach
A tourist resort on the Millstätter See is Döbriach (606m/1,989ft) on the eastern shore. The Late Gothic church has tracery windows and fine Baroque altars. Döbriach is a good base for walks into the Nock region. From Döbriach a road (12km/7.5mi) branches off into the Drau valley. 3.5km/2mi along this road two roads run eastward into the mountains from where there are fine views.
Mollbrucke, Austria
Near the Millstätter See, Möllbrücke (558m/1,831ft) has a Gothic church of St Leonard (15th C.) with beautiful choir stalls, a winged altar and a large statue of St Leonard. South of Möllbrücke lies the little village of Sachsenburg (552m/1,811ft; old town walls). Both the above villages are good bases for walks and climbs. Between the two valleys of the Möll and Drau lies the Salzkofel (2,498m/8,196ft), which can be climbed in six hours.
Radenthein, Austria
Radenthein (746m/2,448ft; pop. 6,500), is a market town in the Carinthian Nock region with a magnesite plant. Located 5km/3mi east of the Millstätter See on the road to the Turracher Höhe, a very beautiful road branches off, running along the shores of the Brennsee and the Afritzer See to Villach.
Seeboden
At the western end of the Millstätter See lies Seeboden (618m/2,028ft), a spa offering the Kneipp treatment, with a spa park and tennis courts. A walk to the Sommeregg ruins will prove enjoyable. From Seeboden there is a narrow road north (10km/6mi) to the Hansbaueralm (1,718m/5,637ft), with the lower station of a chairlift to the Tschiernock.
