The little tourist resort of Mount Cook (alt. 762 m; pop. 600) lies at the foot of Mount Sefton, with a grandiose mountain backdrop. It has a luxury hotel complex, the Hermitage, a number of chalets and, 2km away at White Horse Flat, a large campsite. There is another big campsite at the tourist village of Glentanner Park, 20km south.
