Institute of Oceanography

At the end of Rua Professor Besnard is the Institute of Oceanography of the University of São Paulo, with a Marine Museum (skeletons and specimens of marine fauna). On the same street, 1km/.7mi from the town center, is the Morro São João (St John's Hill), from which there are fine views of the surrounding islands. On the south side of the hill can be seen the bronze rings to which ships were moored in the 16th century.
