Thousand Islands Attractions
Dotted all over an 80 km / 50 mi stretch of the St Lawrence are thousands of little islands.
They are on a granite shelf extending from the Canadian Shield to the Adirondack Mountains in the United States - the boundary actually runs between the islands. It is an area of great scenic beauty, and one of the oldest and best-known holiday venues in North America, particularly for holidays on and around the water.
A cruise in this maze of islands is highly recommended. Operating between mid-May and mid-October; lasting about 3 hours, and the ever-changing vistas will include glimpses of holiday homes that range from the plainest of log cabins to the most luxurious of summer villas.

Mallorytown Landing, Canada
The road alongside the St Lawrence leads to Mallorytown Landing and the official entrance to Thousand Islands National Park. From here it is possible to get to several islands which can only be reached by boat, and to see the wreck of an early 19th C gunboat.
Heart Island - Boldt Castle
Some cruises call at Heart Island to enable passengers to look round Boldt Castle (NB: U.S. formalities), which is well worth a visit. It was built by the wealthy owner of New York's Waldorf Astoria, but was never completed.
The scenic road along the St Lawrence, between motorway exits 107 and 110A, has many lovely views over the water.

Hill Island Skydeck
A good view is to be had from the outlook tower of Hill Island Skydeck (120m / 400ft high). From here a whole range of islands can be seen.
Hill Island Skydeck can be reached over a bridge near Ivy Lee.
