Rimouski (pop. 31,000) is the administrative, economic and cultural centre of the region along the lower reaches of the St Lawrence River. It has a high school and is an important port serving a wider area.
To the west of the town the waters of the Rivière Rimouski plunge through a wild gorge. Some 5 km (3 mi.) further west a pretty lake for bathing has been constructed.
