Miramichi Attractions
The city of Miramichi features a pleasant waterfront with parks and nice views. The city hosts several annual festivals throughout the summer. Points of interest here include museums, galleries, and the St. Michael's Basilica and Museum. Boat tours are also a popular activity with visitors.
Beaubears Island Shipbuilding National Historic Site
Beaubears Island, just outside Miramichi, is the location of an archeological site associated with the 19th century wooden shipbuilding industry in New Brunswick. The shipyards on Beaubears Island were in operation for 75 years. The remains of slips, wharves and foundations are still intact due to the fact that no one ahs lived on the island for over one hundred years.
MacDonald Farm Historic Site
The MacDonald Farm Historic Site tells the story of an early Scottish settler, Alexander MacDonald, his family, and their way of life in 1820. The house, built in 1815, lies in close proximity to a barn, chicken coop, net shed and spring house, all buildings necessary to ensure a self-contained early family establishment.
Miramichi Natural History Museum
The Miramichi Natural History Museum features a wide range of objects related to natural history and humanities. The Human History section contains a variety of nautical related items such as ledgers dating from 1835, relating to merchandising, ship building, lumber and fishing industries. Other exhibits include bird, animal and marine life specimens, rocks and minerals, fossils, as well as fine arts and decorative arts.
