Kirkland Lake Attractions
Kirkland Lake (240 km / 149 mi) is an old boom town, dating from 1912 when gold was first found here, and the supreme haunt of the prospector, achieving international fame for its legendary gold mile, a main road where gold was found at 12 spots. The Macassa Mine is the only mine still working Kirkland Lake's goldfields which are among the richest and largest in Canada.
It was named after Winnifred Kirkland, a secretary of the Ontario Department of Mines in Toronto. The town has a history museum and holds various activities throughout the year, including a winter carnival.

Museum of Northern History
