James Bay Frontier Attractions

Ontario's Wilderness Region, which formerly branded itself as the "James Bay Frontier" is a large section of Northern Ontario bordering on the James and Hudson Bays. It includes the communities of Kapuskasing, Temagami, Timmins, Kirkland Lake, Cochrane, Moosonee, and many others.
Cobalt, Canada
Cobalt, just off the Trans-Canada Highway, came into being in 1903 when a blacksmith, Fred LaRose, stumbled here on what turned out to be the richest silver vein in the world. Cobalt was found somewhat later, leading to a mining boom that lasted until the 1930s. The story of the town's rise to fame and its mining history are recounted in the Mining Museum.
Kapuskasing - Ron Morel Memorial Museum, Canada
Kapuskasing is located between Sault Ste Marie and Thunder Bay along the northern route. One of the town's attractions is the Ron Morel Memorial Museum, housed in railway cars. One car deals with railway memorabilia and the other with the history of the area.
