Hillsborough, which is about 32km (20mi) south of Moncton on the east side of the Petitcodiac estuary, has a historic steam train, of the Salem & Hillsborough Railroad.
The town of HIllsborough can be a good place to base yourself and explore some of the surrounding areas. The town proudly calls itself the "Eastern Gateway to the Fundy Tidal Zone" and is not far from Hopewell Rocks Park.

Salem and Hillsborough Railroad and Museum
At the Salem and Hillsborough Railroad and Museum, passengers can enjoy diesel-hauled excursions in antique coaches through rural New Brunswick. The museum houses lanterns, photographs, a trolley car, antique caboose stoves, and many other railroad related artifacts.

Steeves House
Steeves House in Hillsborough is a colonial mansion built in the early 1800s. It was the birthplace of William Henry Steeves, one of the fathers of Confederation. The house has been restored and contains some of the 19th Century furnishings that belonged to the Steeves family.
