Beyond Whitehorse the Alaska Highway turns westward towards the coastal range of the St Elias Mountains. Passing the little township of Haines Junction the road leads to Kluane National Park in the western corner of the Yukon - a unique nature conservation area with Canada's highest peak, Mount Logan (5951 m (20,130 ft)), which should definitely
be on the itinerary.
In Haines Junction will be found the National Park Visitors Center, which provides an informative multi-media show about the park. There is excellent fishing to be had at Kluane Lake, some 60 km (37 mi.) north of Haines Junction.
