The township of Armstrong (362 m (1188 ft) lies in the Spallumcheen Valley, the northern continuation of the Okanagan, where the fruit trees gradually give way to fields of vegetables and dairy farms.
Armstrong's first settlers arrived around 1866, and the many wooden buildings have retained something of a Western atmosphere. Main Street in Armstrong is still shared by automobiles, pedestrians and Canadian Pacific's freight cars.
The little place is particularly known for its "Cheddar" cheese, which visitors can watch being made at the Armstrong Cheddar Cheese Plant on Pleasant Valley Road.
