Montezuma Castle National Monument

An hour's drive south of Flagstaff is Montezuma Castle, a dwelling of the Sinagua culture built into a recess in a sandstone cliff which rises to a height of 100ft/30m above Beaver Creek. The first whites who came here thought that this was an Aztec settlement. The dwelling has 20 rooms on five levels and could be entered only on ladders.
