Sierra de Cubitas

North of Camaguey is the Sierra de Cubitas mountain range. These small mountains, which are little more than hills, are relatively undeveloped in terms of a tourist infrastructure. The biggest attractions in this area are the caves, some of which contain Amerindian drawings. Located in the Sierra de Cubitas visitors will find Cuba's largest karst depression known as Hoyo de Bonet, the Pichardo and Maria Teresa grottoes with rock drawings, and the Cueva de Rolando, which requires some expertise to explore. Visiting the caves of the Sierra de Cubitas is best done as part of a walking tour with a guide, which typically takes all day.
