This old railroad town is now located in the Tehachapi-Mojave Wind Resource Area where more than 4,900 wind turbines generate 1.3 billion KW-hours of electricity per year (enough to serve 500,000 people). The best time to see these turbines spinning is late afternoon when the hot wind blows from the Mojave Desert.
The Mourning Cloak Ranch and Botanical Gardens is located at 22101 Old Town Road in Tehachapi.
The gardens contain over 2,200 species of plants on 20 acres of hillside.

A railroad engineer conceived the Tehachapi Loop in 1876, allowing trains to climb a steep grade. As many as 40 freight trains a day execute the loop, making it the busiest single-track line in the United States.
Tehachapi Museum features ranching, farming and mining equipment indigenous to the area. Exhibits include relics dating from a little more than 100 years ago - when the white man came to the area; handicrafts and tools used by the indigenous Indians; evidence of prehistoric animals and dinosaurs including models of Ice Age Animals, as well as the natural history of the area.
